Create a Family Christmas Tradition

Holiday traditions are a great way to spend quality time with your loved ones and enjoy everything the season has to offer. If you’re looking for a new tradition or something fun to do, here are some ideas. What’s your favorite thing to do with family over the holidays? Let us know and we’ll share!
- Attend a special event or church service. Many churches do an evening or nighttime program on Christmas Eve and tell the Christmas story with singing, acting, or candlelight. Often little ones are even encouraged to come in their pajamas, giving everyone the chance to learn the reason for the celebration.
- Making cookies is a holiday staple. Don’t have grandma’s secret recipe handy? Try one of these recipes from the Food Network.
- Decorate your Christmas tree. Of course you can decorate however you’d like, but if your light and ornament placement skills are lacking, here are some ways to make your tree look picture perfect.
- Read a book together. Especially good with younger kids, reading a book or Bible passage as a family will connect you to the spirit of the holiday and create lasting memories.
- Watch your favorite holiday movie. Whether it’s the original Grinch cartoon or something more serious, sitting down to a snack and a movie with your loved ones is sure to be time well spent.
- Open a gift on Christmas Eve. Some families like to have a special little something to open together on Christmas Eve as a quieter opportunity for bonding. Others have traditions like opening up pajamas on Christmas Eve so that everyone has something warm and new to wear on Christmas Day.
- Of course you could do something totally off-the-wall that fits your family, too!
