NTB Highlight: Jonathan Kamps

Usually the employee highlights we post at NTB are stories from drivers. Drivers are our biggest human resource and it’s important to let people know what it’s like to drive with NTB so that we can keep adding qualified people to our team. There are so many more positions that come together to make us successful, however. Dispatchers are tasked with helping drivers get where they need to go, relaying important messages and helping to make sure everyone is moving. It’s not an easy job, but our drivers will tell you that dispatch is invaluable to them. Having a friendly team of dispatchers who are familiar with all of our drivers is what makes operations run smoothly.

This challenging yet respectful environment is what brought Jonathan to NTB. He’s a dispatcher who recently joined our team, but he is not new to the company. Jonathan worked with us as a dispatcher a few years ago, before leaving to pursue another opportunity. When his other position fell short of expectations, he decided to come back. He had liked the company and the culture at NTB and had always worked hard to be good at his job. Of course we were happy to have him back.

We asked Jonathan why dispatch at NTB is different than other companies. “It’s efficient. We’re always on top of things. Dispatch has the tools to give drivers the information to make quick decisions.” Making quick decisions allows drivers to keep up productivity and get more work done, and done safely.

As far as what he likes best about working with NTB, Jonathan said, “It’s a nice schedule for dispatchers, and there’s a lot more time at home.” Spending time at home is important to him, especially since he and his wife are expecting their first baby this May.

Jonathan understands the challenges of dispatch. “Sometimes what we need to get done doesn’t always fit with what drivers want. We may know it needs to get done and it’s the best for the company, but not always the easiest thing for drivers.” Communication is key, and making sure everyone is working toward the same goal is what makes the whole team happy.

In his spare time, Jonathan likes to cook and is a self-described “computer nerd.” Currently he’s spending a lot of time getting the house ready for their baby.
