Safety Tips for Construction Zones

Every year, thousands of construction projects take place to make our roads more safe and efficient. However, construction zones can be a real safety hazard for truck drivers. As a driver, you should already know the importance of maintaining safe habits while driving, but here are a few friendly reminders for your next drive through construction.

Follow the Speed Limit

One of the most important safety precautions you can do while in construction zones is to follow the posted speed limit. You may have to make sudden stops or tight turns, so make sure to go slow and steady.

Focus on the Big Picture

There is a lot of activity in construction zones, making it easy to get distracted. Drivers entering a construction zone can sometimes focus too much on the vehicle directly in front of them, and not enough on the big picture. Short sighted driving can make it difficult for you to quickly adapt to changes on the road, so it is especially important to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Lookout for Flaggers

Make sure to pay close attention to flaggers throughout the construction site. Flaggers can change daily as ongoing construction projects shift, so be sure to give flaggers as much authority as signals and signs.

Whether you are driving through a construction zone or not, always stay alert and focused on the road. Remember, never put speed or time before safety!
