The Must Have Packing List For All New Truck Drivers
One of the most difficult parts of being a new truck driver, or even a driver in training at a CDL school, is the unknown. While many schools and companies make sure to thoroughly prepare drivers for what they can expect from their first trip, there is a big difference between learning it and experiencing it.
Packing is something that can be a challenge for many new drivers. There is a fine line between over packing, under packing, and packing the right items. Even experienced drivers do not always remember to bring the necessities. As a new driver, it is more difficult to know what you may need.
To help combat this problem, NTB has prepared a list of essential items to pack that all drivers should have, new or experienced:
- Shower supplies (towel, washcloth)
- Personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving kit, etc.)
- Small laundry bag for dirty clothes
- First aid kit, including medications
- Bedding
- All required credentials (proper license with endorsements, current physical card, etc.)
- Cell phone, including charger and hands free device
- Cash/credit cards in case of an emergency
- Food/healthy snacks
- Plenty of water
- Road Atlas
- Small tool kit (hammer to hump tires/free frozen brakes, duct tape, pliers, screwdriver, utility knife, adjustable wrenches)
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- 5th wheel puller
