Be Thankful for Truck Drivers

We all know how common truck drivers are on the road today. Though you see them all the time, these road warriors and their industry’s sizable impact on our lives, economy, and public roadways go unnoticed and unmentioned far too often.

That’s why, this Thanksgiving, we wanted to say that we are truly thankful for all those working to better the trucking industry, and wanted to share some amazing facts about the impact of our collective efforts.

We’ll Move It: The American Trucking Association (ATA) highlights the fact that 10.55 billion tons of freight were transported by truck in 2016, which accounts for roughly 71% of total domestic tonnage shipped. Next time you order something online or request next day delivery, just remember that a truck driver helped make that happen.

Job Creation: According to the ATA there were 3.5 million truck drivers employed in 2016, and a total of 7.4 million people employed by jobs relating to the trucking industry. That said, there’s still a massive shortage of qualified drivers, so if you want to work for or drive in the trucking industry, check out the current employment needs and listings for NTB Trucking or apply now.

Truck Drivers Go the Distance: While the average consumer will drive around 12,000 miles annually, truck drivers typically cover about 125,000 miles each year. That totals up to about 3 million miles over the span of their careers.

So this Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for our truck drivers and team. We hope when you open that Christmas present from your favorite Aunt, you appreciate the truck drivers that helped make that happen.
