Driver Interview—Mike Gipson on Insights on Trucking at NTB
Mike Gipson is based out of Grand Rapids, MI, and has been with NTB for 28 years . Here are some of his insights on truck driving and his favorite things about working for NTB.
What is your favorite part of the job?
“I am always challenged to try to get things done on a time schedule, which I like. I also like training new drivers. It is a great feeling when you run into the people you have previously trained and they remember you for all of your hard work.”
What do you like most about NTB in particular? Why stay with NTB?
“I would say the people that I work with, like the maintenance staff, dispatchers, and fellow drivers. We are all professional, but have fun together and get along well. It’s nice that we all can joke around with each other. The work itself can be challenging sometimes to get done in a particular time constraint, but any occupation is like that.”
Have you driven with other companies prior to NTB? If so, what caused you to leave?
“Yes, before I started working for NTB, I worked at two other employers. Actually, both employers were purchased by other companies and then my job disappeared. It worked out in the end, though, because NTB has always been good to me and I enjoy my time here.”
