Night Driving Tips

Hopefully you remembered to roll your clock back an hour this Sunday. If not, now is the time to change your clock and refresh yourself on these night driving tips.

Clean your windshield and mirrors: At night, any streaks or debris on your windshield may cause glare, making it difficult to see. To combat glare, clean your windshield and mirrors. One trick is to use newspaper, instead of regular paper towel, and be sure to wipe off the cleaner in a circular motion to avoid streaks.

Take time to rest: If you’re new to night driving, it may take some time for your body to adjust to a new schedule. If you’re drowsy, take a few minutes to pull over and take a break. Remember that coffee provides temporary relief, but can cause a caffeine crash a few hours later. The best thing for your body is rest.

Don’t look into the light: The headlights of other drivers can be blinding at night. If another driver is coming toward you, try looking at the side of the road until they pass. You should also learn to recognize reflections from retinas—especially around dusk when wildlife are most active in the fall.
