Keep an Eye on Fuel Prices
Make sure to check fuel prices before you leave as well as keep your eye on prices while out on the road. You can use this time to strategically plan when you stop to get more fuel, thereby potentially saving money overall.
Plan Extra Buffer Time
Always allow yourself more time than you need. Even when you have your trip planned out perfectly, you could still run into any number of situations that could slow you down. Arriving ahead of schedule is always better than rushing to stay on schedule.
Monitor Weather Reports
Rain, sleet, hail, snow, and high wind can cause issues for you and the drivers around you. Always make sure to keep your eye on the weather and plan ahead for how that might affect or slow down your travels.
Plan Trips Around Key Stops
There’s no need to stop once for fuel, once for a meal, and once to pick up items for the road, if you can make one stop that accomplishes everything. A good tip is to stop at an exit with a large grocery store like Meijer so you can knock out your to-do list while staying on track.
