Staying in Touch While on the Road

cell towerAs part of our regular blog posts, we like to do driver highlights for new drivers and potential drivers to get an idea of what it’s like to be on the road five days a week working with NTB. Plus, it gives our team a chance to talk about what’s important to them.

One thing most drivers mention as the biggest reason they like working for NTB is that they get regular time to be at home with their families. Family is usually the most important thing to our drivers. It can be difficult to be gone for five days, but some people get accustomed to the schedule easily because they’re able to keep in touch. If you’re looking for ways to stay in touch and connected with friends and family, try adding these habits to your routine!

  1. Use technology to your advantage. Mobile phones are probably the easiest and most common devices that we have to stay connected with each other. Other things like laptops and tablets can improve your communication with bigger screens for video chatting, and getting a better view of your loved ones. All you need is free time while you’re not behind the wheel and an internet connection.
  2. Set a regular time to talk so that you don’t miss each other. Whether it’s a bedtime story, during or after dinner, or first thing in the morning, find a time that you can catch up with your family and check in with everyone for the day.
  3. Keep up with regular conversation, even if it’s about little things. Ask about how the day went, take time to listen, and catch up like you would if you were at home.
  4. Share your experiences with your loved ones. If you can get a good shot of a scenic view or landmark while you’re stopped, send it along to your friends and family. It will be a fun way to let them feel connected to what you’re doing, and give them an idea of what your “office” looks like.
  5. If you’d like to get family involved, talk about where you’re traveling and have them look up facts or trivia about the area. A lot of drivers like audio books, and enjoy listening while their friend or partner reads the book at home. It gives you something to feel like you’re doing together, and to talk about when you call.

Thank you to all of our drivers and their friends and family who support them while they’re on the road!
