The Scenic Route

Hello, fellow road warriors! As summer travel ramps up, NTB is taking a virtual journey through some of the Midwest's most scenic routes. We know that truck drivers move quickly and efficiently from shipping point to destination and do not usually get a chance to “stop and smell the roses”. When drivers do take time off to travel, there are a few places, possibly close to the drivers' normal routes, that can be enjoyed. From the Great Lakes of Michigan to the rolling hills of Kentucky, these states in and nearby NTB’s operating area are filled with picturesque landscapes, popular tourist attractions, and historical landmarks that you’ll want to catch when you have some downtime!

Michigan: The Great Lakes State

We’re starting our journey in Michigan, since it’s home to NTB’s headquarters, driving along the coast of Lake Michigan on US-31. This route offers stunning views of the lake, charming coastal towns, and well-maintained rest areas. Don't forget to stop by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a breathtaking view of the water!

Indiana: Crossroads of America

Next, let’s head south into Indiana via I-69, avoiding the tolls and heavy traffic of I-65. Be sure to swing by the historic city of Fort Wayne, and if you have time, detour to the Indiana Dunes National Park - a unique blend of beach and forest.

Illinois: The Prairie State

Travel west into Illinois via I-74, a less congested route with several safe truck stops. You'll pass through the vibrant city of Peoria, and if your schedule allows, take a slight detour to Starved Rock State Park in Oglesby, known for its beautiful canyons and waterfalls.

Ohio: The Buckeye State

Make your way east to Ohio via I-70. This route offers a balance of urban and rural scenery. Be sure to drive through the Hocking Hills region, famous for its rugged cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

Wisconsin: America's Dairyland

Finally, head north to Wisconsin via I-94. This route offers views of farmland, forests, and the Mississippi River. Take a break at the Dells of the Wisconsin River, a striking gorge known for its beautiful cliffs, canyons, and rock formations carved into Cambrian sandstone.

Remember, while the scenery is a fantastic part of the journey, safety should always be your top priority. Keep an eye on weather conditions, adhere to road restrictions, and take regular breaks at rest areas or safe truck stops. Happy travels and enjoy the beauty of the Midwest!

While you’re thinking of great sites, NTB encourages you to take a closer look at the truck driving career opportunities we offer. Since our founding in 1974, NTB has grown into a successful truckload carrier in the Midwest and surrounding regions with a goal of growing positive relationships with our professional drivers while offering unbeatable support.
